Breaking the Chains of Abuse” by Sue Atkinson
This is the first book about Abuse that I read. Its the true story of a little girl not just abused as a child but as a baby too. A truly remarkable survivor she uses her story in a hope to help others survive. I experienced it all in a very similar way i.e. with a Mental block. It is very readable, to the point and covers many aspects of it all. And its for and from the survivors point of view. I after only reading 20 pages or so (that I got from a library first) went out and ordered a copy. Because I just had to have a copy of someone’s experiences which include so many points as mine. And many of the same or similar conclusions I had already come to. I read this before I created the website.

A little girl in and out of care from an early age because of her mothers health and fathers drinking. Just as she believed that her life might improve she was suddenly taken to Kendall House. And nothing she had endured would have prepared her for what was to follow in the years ahead. A cruel abusive regime. Isolated, Alone, A little girl terribly violated… but she survived. To be The Mother, Author and Campaigner she is today. This is her story. Sadly for life but perfect for this review. I was at one with this book. It made perfect sense to me. A must read. But be prepared.

“Dont Tell Mummy” by Toni Maguire
Another remarkable true story from a survivor. A little girl with great courage who has to face what many abused children fear… what happens if I tell? This is her story of surviving the stigma created all around her. And the forgiveness that the abuser so often gets, while the victim endures the wrath of others. I love the way the book is written when as an adult she is taken back to the past while by her dying mothers bed trying to shut it out but failing. It spills out occasionally and briefly she drifts back to the present. A must read. Another book by Toni Maguire “When Daddy Comes Home”.

Daddy’s Little Earner” by Maria Landonm
This is the true story of a little girl who after suffering abuse from an early age. Was then later to find herself being pimped out at the age of thirteen. All through this period in and out of care battling with that undying, unwavering love and the want of it. Abandoned by her escaping mum. What chance did she have? “Right from the start… he used to joke that he was going to make you the best little prostitute on the block.” But she survived to tell her harrowing story. And to go on to be a mother of two. There is now a sequel “Escaping Daddy”. Thank You Maria for your beautiful kind words of support recently.

“Sickened” by Julie Gregory
This is the true story of a girl suffering a Childhood of Munchausen by Proxy (MBP). This is when a Guardian usually the Mother creates or induces a health problem in her child then seeks medical care for it. It is yet another form of Child Abuse that has all the same severe consequences as a child and as an adult too. This is Julies story of surviving as a child and fighting later as an adult the programming that she endured. Building up to take on her mother and her actions Now and of the Past to try and save another from the same fate. Sickening though it is. Its another story that must be told.

“Cut” by Cathy Glass
There is no doubt about the difference a good foster carer can have on an Abuse victim. We are so used to sadly hearing about what happens at the hands of an Abusive carer. So this was a welcome read. I found myself very moved by this book. And as a survivor reading this book gave me a closer insight into the difficulties for the carer who trully cares. This is the true story of such a person looking after a girl called Dawn then aged thirteen. As I said I found it an emotional journey and felt the pain not just of the victim but through the eyes of the carer as she tried her best to help Dawn. Not helped by the inadequacies of the care system that could fail one and all. And at the beginning put all at risk.

A Child Called it” by David J. Pelzer
Its a true story of a little boys start in life and his mothers cruelty towards him. This is a short book but it is a horrifying account of the bizarre tortures she inflicted on him, told from the point of view of David as a young boy being starved, stabbed, badly beaten and numerous other terrible acts. His father ultimately didn’t protect him. Only an alert schoolteacher saved him from a life of terrifying abuse.

“The God Squad” by Paddy Doylenm
Paddy Doyle says “it is about a society’s abdication of responsibility to a child” I can not better that description. Orphaned in Ireland at four years old it tells the story of his early years in 50’s 60’s Ireland. At first being taken to be schooled and cared for by Nun’s. His first experiences were of a strict and cruel regime. It follows him through different hospitals which would become home for many years eventually becoming more disabled over time. Seeing this frightened child alone facing disturbing visions which he could not talk about because of a forced silence. A little boy who became Institutionalised. In the end he did begin to be touched by some love and he came out of it to marry and have children.

“Not without my sister” by Kristina Jones, Celeste Jones and Juliana Buhring.nnnnn
This is the story of three sisters who were raised in a cult, but separated at a young age. It tells their individual stories, and shows the dangers that can happen within a secretive cult. When the leader advocated sex between adults and children, among other things, two thirds left. That says a lot, about the two thirds that left, but sadly about the third that stayed and actively participated in the leaders perverted and twisted ideas of love, which led to many being abused. Three little girl’s stories told when they were finally reunited as adults, after years of a forced separation… now that is love.

I forgive you, daddy” by Lizzie McGlynn
A brave little girl terrified of the continuous abuse she endured, beaten, assaulted and raped by her farther. There were times she dared believe that these horrors would come to an end. But she would learn how the system could fail someone… so much. The signs were there, but it was more than that. Those that should have done more… didn?t do enough, especially when that brave little girl stood up and spoke out. It led to her father being imprisoned, only remarkably for him to be able to return, only a few months later, to continue her and her family?s ordeal. But throughout it all, she learned to forgive as she stood by her dying father?s bed. So she could at least try and move on, and remove herself from her father?s grip. She now stands with others… as a force for change.
